Leak Marketing

Whenever I hear that some major leak has occurred regarding an upcoming film or game release, I get immediately suspicious. Call me crazy (everyone else does), but in today's age of viral clickbait, what better marketing could you receive for your product than some supposed leak? Not only do you get people who will instantly check out said leak because they think the information in it will be better than official promotional releases, you can also test-release material and see how it fares with audiences. It's basically a win-win. I am convinced that strategic leaking is a purposeful marketing practice.

There are clearly some unplanned leaks, to be sure, but color me skeptical of the whole thing.
