Since We're Rebooting Things...

So Resident Evil 2 is a huge hit...again. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy that such a classic got updated, even though it seems that the best media we can come up with these days is just rehashing what's come before.

But since we're in the mood for rebooting classic games, any chance we can get a remake of Parasite Eve? This game left an indelible mark on many gamers in terms of style, and I think it could be a great title. That being said, something must be done about the core gameplay, since turn based combat did NOT turn out very well.

But the horror atmosphere, creature design, story, and even weird psychic powers could make for a really interesting game if done well. The overall concept behind Parasite Eve is actually a really unique take on biological horror. Instead of being a retread of every other piece of bio-hazard fiction where the origin is some virus, Parasite Eve imagines a world in which the human body's own cellular machinery evolves a consciousness and decides to mutate on its own, in truly grotesque fashion. A subtle difference, but a salient one, and it sets the game's concept apart from the rest of its peers.

The creature design is also something at which to marvel. Square-Enix might be an incredibly self indulgent company, but such an approach actually becomes a boon when you're creating Cronenberg monsters.
